Blind spots.

We all have them. The saints in Laodicea had them. In Revelation 3:17, it says, “Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have no need of nothing,’ and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked…”

They thought everything was okay when in reality it wasn’t. What about us? Do we have blind spots? It can be easy to have them. There are things we can often miss. If we can miss a car while driving, certainly we can miss some other things in our lives.

One big blind spot is “That will never happen to me.” Have you ever thought this way? I have and it’s dangerous. We can deceive ourselves and think things like…

  1. “I will never get out of shape. I can eat what I want and not worry about exercising.
  2. “I will never get into debt. And even if I do, I will pay it off quickly.”
  3. “I have plenty of time to get right with God. I don’t need to take action right now.”

Blind Spots.

So, how can we overcome these blind spots?

  1. Recognize that we can have them.
  2. Begin looking for them by asking questions like, “Am I telling myself a story? Am I deceiving myself with this kind of thought process?”
  3. Have someone help you identify potential blind spots. Make sure this is someone you trust. Jesus exposed the blind spots those in Laodicea had. His word has the power to do the same for us and our hearts. Ask your spouse, your friend, or whoever you’re close to if they see some things that we may be missing.

This can become really painful to do. But it will be better than having a fatal LIFE CRASH and SPIRITUAL CRASH.

Blind Spots.

Maybe I have missed something in this post. If so, please let me know.

I CAN DO and SO CAN YOU. Life is all about having the right kind of attitude. We will face challenges. We have to decide how we will respond. Getting an ICD (Internal Cardio-Verter Defibrillator) in 2010 forced me to make a decision about my mindset. I decided that I CAN DO. What about you? Let's go.
