Sex, Wisdom, And Intimacy From The Proverbs. WHAT!

I’ve been sick the last few days, so haven’t done much blogging. But after taking some Tamiflu and getting some rest, I’m feeling much better.

I’ve begun writing about a Proverb each day. I’m a few days behind, so we will catch up today.

If you haven’t been able to read some of the wise sayings we’ve already discussed, they are all under the category “abc’s.” Here is the link for Proverbs 3.

Today, we will look at one Proverbs from Chapters 4, 5, and 6. Consider them and then apply. That’s what wisdom is all about. Knowledge and applying the knowledge in our lives. The title for this blog is Sex, Wisdom, and Intimacy from the Proverbs. I typically keep these posts very short, but reading these Proverbs I feel like I need to say a little more.

In Proverbs 4 you find a woman spoken of. Take notice how she is described.

In Proverbs 5 you will read of two women. Take notice of who to avoid and who to fully enjoy.

In Proverbs 6 you will read of another woman. Take note of her as well. I think the verses are pretty self-explanatory. They are powerful and should be considered. Would love to hear your thoughts. They fly in the face of our modern society. They say the total opposite of what is promoted in most television and movies. Consider the wisdom from these Proverbs.

Proverbs 4:7-9

“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty.”

What do you think of this woman?

Proverbs 5:1-6,8

“My son, give attention to my wisdom, incline your ear to my understanding; That you may observe discretion and your lips may reserve knowledge. For the lips of an adulteress drip honey and smoother than oil is her speech; But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps take hold of Sheol. She does ponder the path of life; Her ways are unstable, she does know it. Keep away from her and do not go near the door of her house.”

What do you think of this woman?

Proverbs 5:18-20

“Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth. As a loving hind and a  graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love. For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress and embrace the bosom of a foreigner?”

What do you think about this advice given by Solomon? Take note of the word “Exhilarating.” WOW. I love that. What does that word mean?

Proverbs 6:23-29, 32-35

“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life to keep you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of her adulteress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, nor let her capture you with her eyelids. For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread, and an adulteress hunts for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Or can a man walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her will not go unpunished. The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; He who would destroy himself does it. Wounds and disgrace he will find, and his reproach will not be blotted out. For jealousy enrages a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance. He will not accept any ransom, nor will he be satisfied though you give many gifts.”

What do you think about this warning?

I CAN DO and SO CAN YOU. Life is all about having the right kind of attitude. We will face challenges. We have to decide how we will respond. Getting an ICD (Internal Cardio-Verter Defibrillator) in 2010 forced me to make a decision about my mindset. I decided that I CAN DO. What about you? Let's go.
