Disconnect And Then Connect

We live in a world where everyone is connected, but not really connected.

The more people are connected, the more lonely and isolated they feel. The more people are connected, the more anxiety, jealously, and lack of worth they feel. At least when it comes to being connected through social media.

It’s time to DISCONNECT.

It’s time to RECONNECT to the real world.

I’m in the process of DISCONNECTING and RECONNECTING. I’m in week four of no Instagram and week three of no Facebook. The withdrawal symptoms are slowing decreasing. I’ve been able to do a lot more connecting the last three weeks.

I’ve connected more with my family. I even went to a birthday party Thursday night with my phone off.

I’ve connected more with myself. My mind is not as anxious. I don’t feel as burdened trying to keep up with everyone and everything.

I’ve connected more with my Marvel movies! Ha. More time to catch up on movies and books. I read a book this week called “Willpower doesn’t work: by Benjamin Hardy.” He’s right. Especially when it comes to social media. Even if I wanted to return to Facebook, I’ve already deleted all of my friends. I turned down a potential opportunity to do some volunteer work on Facebook. Not going to do it. There are other ways to assist people.

It’s time to DISCONNECT and truly CONNECT to others, your passions, books, and so much more. I need to connect even more to my Father in heaven. This last month has given me time to consider the direction I’m going and how I need to improve spiritually. Self-control is one area. Getting off of social media (Facebook and Instagram) has been a good test for me.

Let’s disconnect and connect.


I would love to hear from you about your habits with respect to social media. Please share your thoughts. Please like and share this post if you feel so inclined. If you’re looking for a break from social media, let me give you a few tips.

  1. Delete the apps from your phone.
  2. Delete your friends and then the app from your phone if you really want to do it. Then delete your account.
  3. If you don’t want to go to that extreme, begin with mini social media fasts. Go one morning without logging in. Then try one full day. You will see how powerful they really are.
  4. Read the book “Deepwork” and “Digital Minimalism” by Cal Newport. It will give you some perspective on the benefits of being off social media.
  5. Fill the void being off social media with something else. Immediately. Workout, read a book, finish up those old projects that have been sitting for a long time.

That should get you started.

I CAN DO and SO CAN YOU. Life is all about having the right kind of attitude. We will face challenges. We have to decide how we will respond. Getting an ICD (Internal Cardio-Verter Defibrillator) in 2010 forced me to make a decision about my mindset. I decided that I CAN DO. What about you? Let's go.
