Delete Facebook: 3 Months And Counting

No, I’m not telling you to delete Facebook. But I will share my experience to this point.

I deleted my Facebook account on April 25th.

It took 30 days for it to be fully deleted. It’s been three months now and it’s been great for me. But I am being cautious. I did the same thing back in 2016. I even preached about it. Then I became the Facebook hypocrite. I got back on to join a fitness group. I went about 4 months without having any friends. Then in 2017, I officially began sending out friend requests.

It seems like it’s been longer than three months. I certainly have been able to accomplish so much during this time. It almost feels a little weird. The withdrawal symptoms are gone. I’m finding my groove again.

I will continue to keep you posted as I continue to learn more about myself. This has been a great journey so far. Here are a few thoughts I want to share with you.

  1. It is possible to live without social media.
  2. You can still stay connected with others without social media.
  3. Your life will become more quiet, but in a good way.
  4. You will spend less time on your phone.
  5. Your productivity in other areas of your life will increase
  6. If you’ve been thinking about getting off social media or recognizing the negative effects of it in your life, try a 30 day challenge where you deactivate your account. If you find that really tough to do, then you probably should really do it.

Below are two book recommendations for you to read. There are plenty of other books as well, but these two really gave me more insight and motivation to DELETE.

  1. “Deepwork” by Cal Newport
  2. “Digital Minimalism” by Cal Newport

ENJOY.

And always remember…

I CAN DO…SO CAN YOU.

I CAN DO and SO CAN YOU. Life is all about having the right kind of attitude. We will face challenges. We have to decide how we will respond. Getting an ICD (Internal Cardio-Verter Defibrillator) in 2010 forced me to make a decision about my mindset. I decided that I CAN DO. What about you? Let's go. 1. Congrats on deleting your Facebook account! Mine lays dormant – it’s there but I haven’t used it in two years. The only thing that I find truly useful is Facebook Marketplace, but I use my husband’s account to sell my stuff which works for me. Sadly, some people only live on Facebook and think texting is too much of a hassle, so they haven’t reached out to me since I left. I don’t use FB messenger either.

    • Thank you! Great job Hilary. Yes, I was able to sale quite a few things on the market place! You are so right. I have noticed the same thing about people reaching out. Social media has changed how we operate.

  3. I have an almost dormant FB page, I go on once every two months, only two people wondered where I’d been. But i feel much better for not being on, and I enjoy WordPress for the serious writing which FB failed to deliver. Enjoyed the post and the bought a book as well.
